Meet The Residents At UNLV

The UNLV School of Dental Medicine is home to some of the most exceptional students, and under the guidance of our expert faculty, these residents provide top notch orthodontic care to the Las Vegas community. They work alongside the faculty, and each case is reviewed by a panel of board certified orthodontists, so the best possible treatment is decided for every smile.

Dr. Graydon Carrdr.-graydon-carr

Dr. Graydon Carr was born and raised in Gilroy, California also known as the Garlic Capital of the World. For his undergraduate degree, Dr. Carr attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he received his Bachelors of Science in Cell and Developmental Biology. After Santa Barbara, he moved back home to work as a substitute teacher and manager of a local fitness center. After two years following Santa Barbara, he moved to San Francisco and attended the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). During his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, staying in shape, racquetball, golf, and traveling around Las Vegas with his fiancée and soon to be wife.

Dr. Alexander Dao

Dr. Alexander Dao grew up in a small town in Northfield, New Jersey. He graduated with a double major in Biological Sciences and Economics with a minor in psychology at Rutgers University - New Brunswick Campus. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD) at the Kornberg School of Dentistry - Temple University. He graduated with the highest honors and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilion National Dental Honor Society. After working as a general dentist in Dallas, he decided
to move to Las Vegas to continue his education through an advanced post-doctoral specialty in orthodontics. In his advanced post-doctoral specialty in orthodontics. In his spare time, he likes to eat various cuisines, watch sports, play basketball, and workout.

Dr. Daniel Jarrett

Dr. Daniel Jarrett was born in New York City and raised, since the age of five, in Edina, Minnesota. There, he developed his passion for team sports and played in the renowned Minnesota State Hockey Tournament. He then attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, earning a B.A. degree in 2011, majoring in Chemistry and playing varsity soccer. He returned to his hometown to volunteer in providing dental services to the less fortunate and coach youth hockey before leaving the frozen tundra of Minnesota for the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois, where in 2017 he received his D.M.D. from Midwestern University. From there, he joined the orthodontic residency program at UNLV. While adjusting to the constant blue skies and heat of Las Vegas, Dr. Jarrett enjoys golfing, music, and fitness.

Dr. Andrew Lee

Dr. Andrew Lee grew up in the metropolitan city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. After graduating from high school he moved to San Francisco and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of San Francisco. In 2015, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from UCSF School of Dentistry. After working
for two years in Los Angeles, he decided to continue his education in post-doctoral residency specializing in orthodontics at UNLV. Dr. Lee enjoys cooking new dishes, playing sports such as soccer, tennis and golf and enjoys going to museums. He is proud to say that he has traveled to over one hundred cities by the age of 23 and is very excited to be living in Las Vegas.

Dr. Sogol Shantiyai

Dr. Sogol Shantiyai was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from San Diego State University, and later earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. Following dental school, Dr. Shantiyai completed a General Practice Residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY before moving to Las Vegas to continue her orthodontic education. On her free time, Dr. Shantiyai enjoys to travel, spend time at the beach and watch college football. She loves to try new restaurants, and will never say no to a good latte!

Dr. Melissa Ven Dange

Dr. Melissa Ven Dange was born and raised in Orange County, California. She completed her Bachelor of Science with a major in biology and minor in chemistry at California State University, Long Beach. She then went on to earn her DMD degree at Western University of Health Sciences. In her spare time, she enjoys strolling through local museums, botanical gardens, and antique shops, hiking, long road trips, and attending classical music concerts. She loves exploring, whether it is new foods (she considers herself a foodie - recommendations gladly welcomed) or new cities. “I am so excited to start my new journey here and can’t wait to discover what Las Vegas has to offer in terms of furthering my education and broadening my horizons.”

Dr. Kelvin Chen

Dr. Kelvin Chen was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. After completing his Honors Bachelor of Science degree (H.B.Sc.) at the University of Toronto, he traveled to Detroit, Michigan to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree at the University of
Detroit Mercy. Following graduation, he decided to continue his training at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in pursuit of advanced training in orthodontics. When Dr. Chen is not busy bringing out his patients' best smile in the clinic, he enjoys mountain biking, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Minhquan Dao

Dr. Quan Dao grew up in a small town in Northfield, New Jersey. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in biology. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Temple University. After working as a general dentist in Houston for one year, he decided to pursue a specialty in orthodontics. In his spare time he enjoys staying active, trying new foods and restaurants, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Mallary Forrest

Dr. Mallary C. Forrest was born and raised in North Georgia.  She graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. In 2011 she earned her dental degree from the University of Maryland where she graduated in the top of her class. While in dental school, Dr. Forrest received several awards and grants for her dedication to dentistry. She was invited into the Gorgas honor society, Omicron Kappa Epsilon honor society, and completed a year-long clerkship in implant prosthodontics. Prior to pursuing an orthodontic career, Dr. Forrest worked as a general dentist in the Charlotte, NC area for 7 years. Dr. Forrest has been married to her husband, a physical education teacher, since 2010 and they have a 4-year old daughter. Dr. Forrest enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going for walks with their German Shepherd and trying new restaurants.

Dr. Namgu Kim

Dr. Namgu Kim was born in Seoul, Korea and raised in a suburb of Portland, Oregon. After graduating from high school, he moved to Washington D.C. and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgetown University. Dr. Kim went back to Portland, Oregon and received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from Oregon Health & Science University before joining Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at UNLV. During his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, going to concerts and trying out new restaurants. Dr. Kim is always open for recommendations for restaurants and your favorite places in Las Vegas.

Dr. Melissa Trumbo

Dr. Melissa Trumbo was born at the United States Naval Hospital located in Yokosuka, Japan and raised, since the age of two, in Zalma, Missouri. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from College of the Ozarks located near Branson, Missouri. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. During graduation, Dr. Trumbo was sworn in as a United States Navy Lieutenant to provide general dentistry services to active duty military members and their families. She moved to Norfolk, Virginia and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Naval Base Norfolk. After the one-year residency, Dr. Trumbo moved to Okinawa, Japan where she worked as a general dentist and traveled to several countries in Asia during her four-year tour. Then she embarked on the arduous transition from Okinawa, Japan to Las Vegas, Nevada to begin her residency at UNLV in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in June 2018. Dr. Trumbo enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, cooking, playing volleyball, exercising, and attending concerts.

Dr. Kyle Tuttle

Dr. Kyle Tuttle grew up in Fillmore, Utah and is the second youngest in a family of five. He attended Utah State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Science. He received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health graduating in May 2018.  Dr. Tuttle is married to his beautiful wife Cherish and has two children, Kent (age 3) and Maye (age 1). Dr. Tuttle is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. Prior to attending Utah State University, Dr. Tuttle served a two-year church mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He enjoys spending time with his family and working on his family’s farm in Southern Utah. He also loves sports and is a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Dr. Najem Anbari was born and raised in Baghdad-Iraq, where he received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree.  He then moved to Philadelphia and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Pennsylvania - School of Dental Medicine.  Dr. Anbari graduated with honors in community health service and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society in May of 2018.  After practicing dentistry in Boston, he moved to Las Vegas to pursue his post-doctoral specialty training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.  Dr. Anbari has been married to his wife, a general dentist since 2013 and they have a 10-month old son.  He enjoys hiking and road trips with his family and friends, reading and exploring new places.

Dr. Kimberly Doucette

Dr. Kimberly Doucette was born and raised in the small town of Heber, Arizona.  She grew up playing sports and spending time with her big family.  After high school she played volleyball and went to school at Chandler Gilbert Community College.  She then attended Arizona State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  She continued on to receive her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona.  She is excited to continue her education journey and join the specialty program for orthodontics at UNLV.  Dr. Doucette is married to her high school sweetheart Rory and they have two children, a daughter Tayte (age 4) and son RJ (age 1).  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, working out, and baking.

Dr. Matthew Hunsaker

Dr. Matthew Hunsaker grew up in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada and is the youngest in a family of 10.  He attended Arizona State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Biological Sciences.  He received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine in May 2019.  Dr. Hunsaker is married to his sweetheart Madeline and has a daughter, Scarlett (age 2) and expecting a baby boy November 2019.  Dr. Hunsaker is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.  Prior to attending Arizona State University, Dr. Hunsaker served a two-year church mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Northeastern Argentina where he learned to speak Spanish fluently. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.  He also loves music, sports and is an avid fan of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Dr. Brady Petersen

Dr. Brady Petersen was born and raised right here in Las Vegas, NV.  Both of his parents were even born and raised in Las Vegas and much of the family has continued to make this great city their home.  Dr. Petersen is the oldest in a family of five children, and he grew up playing all different kinds of sports and activities.  He attended the University of Utah where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology.  He then received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from UNLV School of Dental Medicine in May 2017 and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. After working as a general dentist for two years in the Las Vegas community, he decided to continue his education through an advanced post-doctoral specialty in orthodontics at UNLV.  Dr. Petersen is married to his beautiful wife, Nicole, and together they have four children, Briggs (age 9), Grant (age 7), Teagan (age 4) and Olivia (age 1)During his free time, Dr. Petersen enjoys spending time with friends and family, golf, basketball, and has recently become a huge fan of the Vegas Golden Knights!

Dr. Melissa Kornhaber

Dr. Melissa Kornhaber was born and raised in the small town of Goshen, New York.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Screen Arts and Cultures from the University of Michigan.  She then went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.  She graduated with the highest honors and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honor Society.  Upon graduating, she joined the residency program here at UNLV to pursue advanced education in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.  Dr. Kornhaber is looking forward to the amazing cuisine and live music Las Vegas has to offer.  Moreover, she loves to travel, hike and ski and is excited to move out west and explore the many national parks and ski resorts in Las Vegas’s backyard with her friends and family. 

Dr. Mark Wittchow

Dr. Mark Wittchow was born in Iowa City, Iowa and moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin at the age of two.  In grade school, he developed a passion for golf and hockey.  He attended Minnesota State University, Mankato where he played collegiate golf his freshman year and earned his Bachelor of Science with a major in human biology and minor in chemistry.  He went on to earn his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona.  Dr. Wittchow was married this past May to his beautiful wife Gia.  They have one dog, named Palmer.  In his spare time, he likes to try new golf courses, play hockey, watch sports and spend time with friends and family.  Although Dr. Wittchow has not lived in Wisconsin since graduating from high school, he remains an avid Packer fan.
